    Job Summary

     

    Conducts individual and group activities for residents at assigned center, under the direction of the Activities Director.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Conduct resident-centered activities, including a balance of physical, intellectual, religious, arts and crafts programs, sensory/stimulation programs, and community outings under supervision of the Activities Director.
    2. Visit with and provide a variety of activities to room-bound residents.
    3. Transport residents to and from campus activities, as needed.
    4. Document and maintain accurate records related to residents' level of activity and participation.
    5. Maintain adequate levels of supplies and report equipment and supply needs to supervisor; store supplies and equipment in assigned storage areas and activity centers.

    Job Qualifications

     

    Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

    • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

     

    Experience

    • Experience working with older adults in a group setting preferred.

     

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to display compassion and empathy with vulnerable adults who may become angry, hostile or combative.
    • Ability to appropriately communicate with and respond to adults with varying levels of cognitive and physical impairments.
    • Ability and willingness to work constructively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to maintain a helping role when interfacing with persons served; intervenes when appropriate.
    • Ability to work independently and interdependently to organize and implement activities.
    • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to work effectively through change.
    • Ability to move quickly from one task to another. Ability to read, speak and write English.
    • Ability to speak effectively to groups of individuals.
    • Ability to add, subtract and multiply two digit numbers.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with staff from other departments.

    Physical and Mental Requirements

    • Ability to safely lift and transfer persons served on an as needed or regular basis and using appropriate level of assistance for lifts and transfers.
    • Ability to push person in wheel chair weighing up to 250 pounds on a frequent basis, often for long distances.
