Job Summary


The Annual Fund Manager is an integral member of Samaritas’ Advancement Team. Supports the department’s fundraising goals and is responsible for building and growing an effective annual giving (broad base) program that includes tribute, year-end, spring and group-targeted campaigns, as well as donor trend reporting for portfolio management and other initiatives. Manages the oversight of the donor database, Raiser’s Edge NXT as the direct supervisor of the Development Database Manager. Administers and oversees multiple direct mail and telemarketing projects, development-related database management, gift processing and data entry, organization-wide data collection, tracking, reporting and analysis, as well as data integrity and security. Works closely with and reports to the Chief Advancement Officer.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement and track a multi-channel annual giving plan to engage current donors and to acquire new donors using direct mail, telemarketing, online giving and targeted audiences approaches, and work with the Advancement and Marketing Team on other creative fundraising strategies.
  2. Work in conjunction with the Chief Advancement Officer and CEO on an annual board giving campaign.
  3. Analyze effectiveness of various fundraising methods and messages through Raiser’s Edge and adapt future appeals/campaigns accordingly.
  4. Coordinate prompt and appropriate acknowledgement and recognition of gifts, including thank you letters/receipts, year-end tax statements, pledge reminders and sponsor invoices.
  5. Perform complex data searches, list generation, imports and exports of data to produce and use detailed and accurate reports and lists for use in mailings, data, and prospect and appeal/campaign analysis.
  6. Oversee all aspects of gift entry, including online, recurring gift processing, direct mail, stock and wire transfers and daily mail. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the development database (Raiser’s Edge NXT), including all gift entry, data entry, technology management and end-use training and support.
  7. Develop and use donor trend reports for portfolio management/action tracking and personalized messaging. Identify prospects for wealth and asset assessments, using Raiser’s Edge and other resources. Coordinate prospect research and related research profiles.
  8. Manage relationships with external vendors and internal departments to ensure effective use of Samaritas’ resources to meet or exceed delivery, revenue and expense goals, includes working with graphic designers, printers, mail-fulfillment vendors and key staff.
  9. Develop and manage annual revenue and expense budget for annual giving programs.
  10. Participate in Samaritas activities and events as required.
  11. Other advancement duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications


Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ experience in annual fund management and fund development database management with gift processing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.



  • 3-5 years of direct management of an annual fund program (broad based fundraising).
  • 5-7 years of direct experience in fundraising database, prospect, and gift processing management; Raiser’s Edge preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers including the use of fund raising databases, word processing, database, PowerPoint and Excel applications, and Email.
  • Ability to effectively promote and engage people during events, while in the community, and during interactions with key stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work successfully and efficiently under pressure in an event environment; ability to negotiate results-oriented solutions to problems.

Additional Work Requirements

  • Flexible schedule is required. Ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed, including statewide travel.
  • Automobile travel required. Valid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record. Valid proof of automobile insurance. Use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
