🥫 TEFAP Program Coordinator – Nourish Communities. Lead with Purpose!

 

Are you passionate about food justice and Wayne County community impact? We’re looking for a dedicated Food Distribution Program Coordinator to lead the administration and distribution of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), ensuring that nutritious food reaches families who need it most. In this vital role, you’ll manage program logistics, compliance, and partnerships, making sure every pound of food makes a difference. You  will be the bridge between federal resources and local communities, helping to fight hunger with efficiency, compassion, and integrity. The Food Distribution Program Coordinator ensures the effective planning, execution, and evaluation of food distribution efforts across Wayne County. This role is responsible for inventory, logistics, community engagement, volunteer coordination, and compliance, with a focus on reducing food insecurity and increasing access to nutritious food for vulnerable populations.

This position has a salary of $47,000 per year. Benefits are effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment and are detailed below.

Core Responsibilities

 

Inventory Management

 

  • Track food inventory levels and report shortages or issues.
  • Track food inventory being sent out to sites.
  • Assist with data entry and documentation of food distributed.

 

Operational Support

 

  • Assist with preparing reports, presentations, and other communications.
  • Assist with receiving, sorting, packing, and distributing food items.
  • Operate warehouse equipment safely (e.g., pallet jacks) after receiving proper training.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage and distribution areas.
  • Help load and unload food deliveries and supplies.

 

Client Services

 

  • Greet and assist clients during distribution events.
  • Ensure respectful and equitable service delivery.
  • Help collect client data and feedback as needed.

 

Compliance and Safety

 

  • Follow food safety guidelines and organizational protocols.
  • Report any safety concerns or incidents to the Director, Infrastructure & Strategic Initiatives.

 

Volunteer Coordination

 

  • Support volunteer activities during distribution events.
  • Help train new volunteers on basic procedures and safety protocols.

 

Key Performance Measures

 

  • Accuracy in inventory tracking and reporting
  • Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Volunteer satisfaction and retention.
  • Scheduled events executed on time.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in program coordination, logistics, or community outreach, preferably in a non-profit.
  • Prior experience in food service and warehouse
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and guidelines is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required as needed for community events.
  • Combination of office, warehouse and field work across multiple sites.
  • Moderate travel between distribution sites and partner locations, approximately 10-15% of time.
