This position has a pay rate between $100,000 and $114,000 annually.

The Refugee Lead Medical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of timely, appropriate health services for children in care, in compliance with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) requirements. This leadership role ensures the development and implementation of health-related policies and procedures, supervises medical staff, and fosters relationships with healthcare providers to ensure high-quality care. The position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations and ensuring the well-being of clients through effective care coordination and health service delivery.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

Medical Program Oversight

 

  • Supervise medical coordinators and support staff across assigned programs.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for health record management, triage, emergency response, environmental health, and post-release care coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health regulations and documentation standards.

 

Training and Development

 

  • Provide staff training on medical, dental, and public health topics relevant to pediatric, adolescent, and migrant health.
  • Promote continuous learning and adherence to best practices in healthcare delivery.

 

Healthcare Coordination and Provider Relations

 

  • Coordinate timely access to medical, dental, and behavioral health services for clients.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing healthcare providers to expand care opportunities.

 

Compliance and Documentation

 

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure 95% compliance in health record audits and timely service delivery.

 

Stakeholder Engagement

 

  • Collaborate with internal teams (215-527 and 215-528) and external partners including ORR and healthcare providers.
  • Represent Samaritas in health-related meetings and compliance reviews.

 

Team Management and Development

 

  • Provide supervision, coaching, and mentorship to medical staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

Performance Metrics and Reporting

 

  • 95% of clients receive medical services within required timeframe.
  • Expansion of contracts with service providers to increase care access.
  • 95% compliance in health record audits.

 

Core Competencies

Education

 

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor degree; OR
  • Higher health-related qualification (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant)

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum 1 year in public health or healthcare setting with experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care
  • Supervision experience preferred

 

Certifications

 

  • Active healthcare license or certification
  • Proof of TDAP, varicella, MMR, and annual flu immunizations required

 

Work Conditions

 

  • Desk and field work
  • Office and field-based settings with face-to-face contact with refugee youth
  • Travel between Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Ann Arbor required
