Teaching children coming from diverse and often times traumatic backgrounds who are placed into a shelter setting or foster home as an Unaccompanied Child. Provide educational support services in accordance with applicable contractual and regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Support learning and instructional objectives with translation services if bilingual
  2. Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to help master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  3. Maintain ongoing communication with teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
  4. Observe student's performance and record relevant data to assess progress
  5. Assist in presenting subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of the teacher
  6. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage
  7. Supervise Students during lunch, recess and independent learning tasks; transport and supervise students during class outings
  8. Participate in performance-related goal setting, achievements to meet personal, organization objectives, and goals
  9. Support the student's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts
  10. Assist with educational assessments, weekly progress reports, conducting weekly group sessions, and educational activity planning as needed
  11. Report safety hazards and needed repairs to Supervisor

Job Qualifications Education

 

Training, and Licensure/Certification

 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of college course work or Associate degree in human services or education field, preferred
  • English as a Second Language Certificate, preferred

 

Experience

 

  • One year experience working with youth grades K-12, in an educational setting
  • Experience working with residential youth preferred
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish (or the Major language of the youth in care) preferred
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current registration and automobile insurance
