Supervises the accounting functions of the organization in accordance with the organization’s Financial Policies and Procedures. Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place to protect organization assets, and produce timely and accurate financial information for internal and external users.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Maintain financial records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, organization policies and other regulatory requirements.
  2. Coordinate accounts payable check runs, including: Samaritas, Foster Care, New Americans, and Managed Facilities.
  3. Assist with the maintenance and administration of the expense reporting system, Certify.
  4. Supervise and review the work of the accounts payable and payroll/cash accountants, including providing back-up.
  5. Reconcile accounts and variances, including intercompany transactions.
  6. Oversee the month end closing process including coordinating all entries from Finance staff to ensure they are complete and accurate.
  7. Prepare the monthly financial statements.
  8. Organize and maintain documentation supporting general ledger balances that meet the requirements of external auditors.
  9. Maintain internal controls around cash, including positive pay, EFTs and deposits.
  10. Ensure compliance with written operational and financial policies and procedures to assure continuous quality improvement, internal control, and that the department standards are met.
  11. Lead, motivates, mentor and hold accountable staff. Provide guidance and training to staff to ensure that they understand goals, staffing plans and job responsibilities.
  12. Analyze financial information; provide recommendations and solutions to Manager, Financial Reporting to improve workflow processes and meet department and organizational objectives.
  13. Review monthly reconciliations and other work prepared by direct reports and other staff.
  14. Assist the Director, Finance and Manager, Financial Reporting with various projects.

Job Qualifications

 

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

 

Experience

  • 4+ years of accounting experience.
  • Supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Non-profit experience, preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of fiscal procedures.
  • Knowledge of foster care reimbursement, skilled nursing reimbursement and government contracts preferred.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial contracts, documents, and reports.
  • Ability to identify issues, propose alternatives and implement corrective actions.
  • Advanced proficiency in utilizing various computer applications, including and not limited to Word and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize and evaluate various accounting software programs.
  • Ability to maximize technology and perform work in a paperless environment.
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English. Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to prepare letters, summaries and reports using prescribed format and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals. Ability to work constructively with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions of a complex Organization. Strong organizational skills.
