This position has a pay range of $18.00 to $19.00/hour.

The Head Chef is responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen, ensuring the highest quality of food preparation, presentation, and service while maintaining budgetary guidelines. The Head Chef fosters creativity and ensures compliance with health and safety regulations as well as Center guidelines.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops planned menus and prepare meals in accordance with established health, safety and portion control regulations and procedures.
  2. Ensure all meals are meet established quality standards.
  3. Utilize and coordinate residents and/or volunteers in meal preparation, kitchen and dining room duties.
  4. Assist in budgeting and purchasing functions; monitor and maintain adequate inventory of food and supplies.
  5. Monitor food storage, inventory, and ordering while ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.  Coordinates and assist in daily cleaning and sanitation of kitchen and dining room.                       
  6. Monitor kitchen and dining room for safety issues and equipment needs; report hazards immediately to supervisor.
  7. Assist in food preparation for special events and parties.

Job Qualifications

 

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Culinary arts degree or equivalent preferred
  • Successful completion of ServSafe training and attainment of ServSafe certification within three month of employment is required to maintain this position.

 

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or similar role in a commercial or institutional kitchen

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of nutrition
  • Ability to relate with empathy to vulnerable adults and children.
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and hygiene regulations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide units of measure.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English language with proper use of punctuation, pronunciation and word order.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff, residents and general public.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Fast-paced kitchen environment requiring physical stamina and the ability to work long hours.
  • May involve standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
  • Must be able to handle high-pressure situations during busy meal service hours.
