DIRECTOR - INDIVIDUAL ENGAGEMENT - SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN

 

Do you have a Bachelor degree in Philanthropy or have similar experience with non-profit fund development management and are native or located in East Michigan?

 

The Director of Individual Engagement is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and solicitation of planned, mid, and major individual gifts within their designated donor and prospect portfolio. This position calls for a strategic thinker with a demonstrated history in engaging individual donors and successful major gifts fundraising across southeast and parts of central Michigan. The Director supervises the Prospect Researcher and works closely with and mentors the Director, Personal Giving-West as well as the full Advancement Team under the auspices of the Chief Growth Officer. Samaritas offers a supportive, hybrid work environment with the flexibility for the Director to work mostly remotely.

This position has a pay rate of a range of $90,000 to $100,000 annually

The Director of Individual Engagement is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and solicitation of planned, mid, and major individual gifts within their designated donor and prospect portfolio. This position calls for a strategic thinker with a demonstrated history in engaging individual donors and successful major gifts fundraising. The Director's duties include crafting and executing strategies to expand the major gifts program, cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals, and generating substantial revenue to advance the organization’s mission across southeast and parts of central Michigan. As an experienced leader in major gifts, the Director establishes and implements policies and procedures to ensure effective fundraising and the success of major gifts and planned giving initiatives.

 

The Director supervises the prospect researcher and works closely with and mentors the Director, Personal Giving-West as well as the full Advancement Team under the auspices of the Chief Growth Officer. Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Create and execute a comprehensive strategy for individual giving, focusing on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors and prospects.
  2. Maintain and build a portfolio of 100 mid and major gift prospects, moving individuals to increasingly generous levels of support.
  3. Be responsible for understanding the depth and breadth of Samaritas’ programs, impact and outcomes and translate these to compelling messaging for audiences.
  4. Develop and execute strategies for soliciting major gifts within the portfolio, including preparing meaningful proposals and presentations.
  5. Collaborate with the Advancement team to organize and host donor meetings, receptions, educational panel discussions, and other donor solicitation events.
  6. Effectively steward and communicate the impact and outcomes of individual gifts to donors.
  7. Launch and coordinate the statewide Planned Giving Advisory Council to advance and expand the planned giving Heritage Society membership. Analyze planned giving trends, identify areas of opportunity and implement creative solutions.
  8. Establish annual and monthly revenue gift tables and goals to achieve Advancement Team targets. Provides metrics reporting to the Executive Director, Chief Growth Officer and Board Advancement Committee on Major Giving program.
  9. Manages and develops the prospect researcher and incorporates best practices in acquisition and moves management.

Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in philanthropy, communication, or related field of study or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification preferre

Experience

  • Five years’ experience in a non-profit fund development management or supervisory role
  • Management of a major gift program is preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple and complex projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbal and writing. Ability to prepare and write grants, speeches, cases for support, editorials and manuals.  Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to effectively lead staff to meet organization and department objectives.
  • Ability to relate effectively and work interdependently with all levels of staff, and with general public, congregations, corporations and foundations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use with sophistication, computer software such as Microsoft office programs and in particular, Raisers Edge, our donor database system.

Additional Work Requirements

  • Automobile travel required. Valid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record. Valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Extended and evening hours required.
